Where are you Christmas? Why can’t I find you?

Why have you gone away?

Where is the laughter you used to bring me?

Why can’t I hear music play?

Written by James Horner and Will Jennings for “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000)

I apologize to you readers as my plan for daily or every other day updates fell by the wayside this past week.  Why you may ask… Christmas.  I’ve been busy shopping, running around and stressing.  I love Christmas but I’m surrounded by Grinches, which makes it hard to get into a positive mindset.  For me – Christmas is about family and friends and I just need to keep reminding myself. (It helps to avoid the avoid the craziness that is the mall this time of year.)

But Christmas is also a hard time of year.  More people are visiting the food banks this year than before.  The toy drives in the area are empty and the suicide rate always goes up in December.  We place such high expectations on ourselves and the holidays that they are impossible to measure up and thus we think we’ve failed.

My idea for everyone this year – give what you can to others (time or money or gifts or skills).  Have one realistic goal for Christmas and let the rest all happen.  This year I will be giving to the food bank and showing up on time for Christmas dinner (a change for anyone who knows my family).  What about you?

Merry Christmas to you too! I’ve been driving all over for the last week and I’m just slowing down to look at my blog now.
